Class is officially in session at Skool Beans Café in Vík, Iceland! This unique café experience taught us that top-tier coffee and hospitality doesn’t have to cost a steep latte. For six bagels (loooooaded) with cream cheese, two double-shot cappuccinos with chocolate sprinkles on top, one black coffee, and one cinnamon roll only cost $86 USD. Iceland is home to two school bus coffee shops. While the original is located in Vík, you can find another skoolie setup in Hella. The setting at Skool Beans Café is incredibly scenic. The café sits right beneath a mountain shrouded in fog, with birds circling overhead.
The menu at Skool Beans Café is extensive, presented in a unique flip book format. It offers a wide selection of custom drinks and meals to browse through. As you read through the pages, you’ll find sections for Coffee, Positivi-tea, Liquid Desserts, Fill The Tank (food options), and Sweet Snacks. Under Coffee they offer Americano, Flat White, Latte, Cappuccino, Espresso, Ristretto, Short Macchiato, Vienna, Cortado, Mocha, Chai-spresso, and Pumpkin Partaaay. A standout feature of this bright yellow café is the option to tailor your beverage by selecting a specific roast level and regional origin.
While outdoor seating is available, utilizing it is up to your discretion given how unpredictable Iceland’s weather can be. The conditions can shift from freezing temperatures to severe wind and rain all within a 10-minute window. Fortunately, we managed to snag a couple of seats inside while waiting for our order. Because space is limited and out of respect for others, we only stayed for a few minutes before heading out. And unfortunately because of how tight the space is, dogs are not allowed inside. They’re open Wednesday-Thursday from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m., Saturday-Sunday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. They are closed Monday and Tuesday.
