Café Among Writers
Amidst the chilly weather, you’ll find a café in Kansas City that looks forward to its Patio Season—a beautiful, enormous patio with dim, hanging low lights for its customers to sit on outside. Made in KC Café, near the Kansas City Convention Center, it will greet you with a velvet curtain at the doorway, signaling your arrival, along with the friendliest baristas! This sociable café is not only a space for coffee but also a backroom with a bar for nights where coffee just isn’t strong enough!

Drafting Drinks
Made in KC Café primarily sells coffee drinks, though they do have tasty gluten-free pastries available. For Not Drinks (perfect for the cold weather,) this café offers Matcha Latte, Chai Latte, Tea Fog (tea of choice), Iced Tea, Hot Tea, and Hot Chocolate. They have a weekend special offering Cereal Milk Lattes! Now, for the basics, aka for coffee lovers: House Coffee, Single Origin, Cold Brew, Espresso, Americano, Cappuccino, Latte, Macchiato, Cortado, and Fountainccino. They do offer alternative milk and a variety of syrup flavors! Made in KC Café has creative signature drinks for anyone feeling adventurous! The names of these drinks are Birdie, Paris of the Plains, Swelce, Monáe, Midwest Nice, and Pothole.

What Do You Call An Adventurous Writer?
A journey-list! I visited this café during the 2024 AWP Writer’s Conference, so writers appreciated the baristas’ jokes. Be sure to show up bright and early in the morning if you’re planning a visit to Made in KC Café (or any café downtown) during a convention, as it’ll be packed! Even though I stopped for coffee early in the morning, I just couldn’t beat the crowds! On the last day that I visited this popular café, they were unfortunately out of espresso– if that doesn’t tell you just how popular they were, I don’t know what will! Made in KC Café is open every day starting every morning at 7, so come in and enjoy!
