A cozy, diverse café to leave the chilly air behind and welcome in the warmth. Kaffibrennslan Café in Reykjavik is located near the rainbow street. After spending time in the city’s main shopping area, what could be better than a cup of warm coffee? Not into shopping? That’s okay, too. Most cafés in Iceland open past 11 a.m., so finding one that opens the moment you wake up to go sightsee and hike is difficult. Luckily, Kaffibrennslan Café opens early and closes very late! This inviting café leaves its door open to bring in fresh air, but if the indoor is too stuffy for you, there are several outdoor seating.

Be prepared to spend quite a bit at any restaurant or café in Iceland as this country is one of the most expensive places to visit! This island is remote, so most things must be imported, which is why costs are hefty. However, Kaffibrennslan Café is pretty affordable. For the sake of transparency, I ordered five drinks: an oat milk cappuccino, one cortado, one latte, one hazelnut latte, and one black coffee. For food, I ordered: one chocolate croissant, one slice of a carrot cake, and one slice of a chocolate cake. All this came out to a total of $68.18. The portion sizes are good for the price.

For their drinks, Kaffibrennslan Café offers hot drinks, soda & juice, beer & wine, and cocktails. Though Irish coffees are offered, alcoholic drinks are only available after 11 a.m. One free refill is given with every black coffee ordered. All drinks came with beautiful latte art! For food, there is: breakfast/lunch, waffles & cakes, toasted bread & bagels, and grilled sandwiches (all sandwiches come with chips on the side.)

Kaffibrennslan offers oat milk and almond milk. There is no designated area to put dirty plates, so just leave used mugs and plates on your table. This café opens everyday at differing hours: Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m.; Friday from 8 a.m. to 1 a.m.; Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 a.m.; and Sunday from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. If you have the chance to visit the breathtaking island of Iceland, make sure to stop by Kaffibrennslan Café before your adventure into the countryside!
