Warm Retreat

During my time in Kansas City, this café was my go-to for the best vegan breakfast burrito. Mildred’s Café is near the Kansas City Convention Center, a little past Made In KC Café. As you walk down the slope, you’re welcomed by charming outdoor benches and wide double doors leading into the café. Inside, the ambiance is a perfect blend of cozy and vibrant, with natural light streaming through the large windows. Many students or remote workers flock to Mildred’s Café for its academic atmosphere– and its abundance of charging outlets. In the midst of an event like AWP, this café offered a nice and warm retreat.

Savory, Sweet, and Spiked

Mildred’s Café offers a wide range of options, from a dark espresso pick-me-up to fizzy brunch drinks. On their menu, they serve Coffee, Not Coffee, Breakfast (tastiest vegan burrito), Salads, Lunch Sandwiches, and Brunch Drinks. If you haven’t guessed already from the repeated praise of their vegan breakfast burrito, Mildred’s Café has non-dairy milk (Oat and Almond). They also offer several flavors for your coffee– and for an extra $5, any seasoned adult can elevate [spike] their drink with a spirited twist.

Coffee Lovers

For the most important segment of this blog—coffee! Mildred’s Café offers Drip Coffee, Latte, Cappuccino, Americano, Cold Brew, Milly’s Iced Au Lait, and Espresso. If coffee isn’t calling your name that day (which would be hard to believe if you’re reading this), fear not– you can indulge in a delightful selection of non-coffee beverages instead. Those include Hot Cocoa, Chai Latte, Hot Tea, Iced Tea, Fruit Smoothie, and Kombucha On Tap. All these drinks have the option to be spiked. Those include Baileys, Jameson, and Tito’s.

Come On In

This beloved family-owned café has been a cherished part of the Kansas City community for over 25 years, serving up a delightful array of offerings. From scratch-made baked goods that fill the air with their sweet aroma to a diverse selection of specialty coffees– there’s something to please every palate. Mildred’s Café has two locations– one at the Crossroads Art District and the other at the Historic 9th Street District (that’s the one I went to). So, the next time you’re near or visiting, come in and experience the warmth!
