“Homey” is the word I would use to describe the feeling of stepping inside of Java House in downtown Fort Myers. The first thought that came into my mind as I walked in was, “this is the perfect spot for students to do their homework.” It was so relaxing. They played popular music but it wasn’t the kind that was distracting and loud, rather it was soft and calm enough where you can enjoy the sound of the music while studying and focusing on your work. The shop is circled by windows, making it an experience for any weather, from watching the rain drip down the glass 2 feet from you as you drink your warm coffee, to a windy sunny morning as the leaves swirl into a tornado and a few squirrels steal food closely behind it. You can sit anywhere, from the table circling the entrance windows, to tables scattered inside the shop, or even cute little couches to submerge into relaxation.

If you’re anything like me and enjoy people watching—you may want to consider drinking your coffee here at Java House. You can choose to drink your coffee inside or outside. The perfect place to people watch (or nature watch) at Java House is by the windows. There is one consistent table that surrounds the window so you can sit in front of it and enjoy your coffee with the view of dogs trying to chase the squirrels, the cars coming and going, and people laughing as they pass by.

They won’t normally serve you coffee in one of their mugs unless you specifically ask for it. The two times I’ve been there I have had to ask– which is completely fine! But just in case you decide to go in hopes of drinking coffee in a mug, be aware that you need to ask for it, probably because people usually go there to get their coffee and go. They are also nice enough to bring your coffee and food wherever you are.

The prices here at Java are what you can expect if you would go to Starbucks, for example, but it’s worth the price because the coffee in the mugs come in a good size. They do serve food as well, and although it’s not a large portion, the quality is worth the price and it’s why I went twice. Be aware of this–DO NOT leave your food or/and drinks at their tables (inside or outside). I’ve seen some people do it and it is very disrespectful. They have a sign near the back of the cafe, close to where you order, that specifically states to place trash in the garbage and silverware/plates/mugs inside the tray container. They even have little arrows pointing at either or. So, please keep that in mind the next time you stop by, or plan to stop by. Be courteous to others and enjoy your little stay at a thoughtful cafe!
