Butterflies, bees… and coffee!

The most fascinating detail about this German cafe is that it sits right across from the butterfly garden! Located in Downtown, Fort Myers, this is the ideal place to sit and drink a cup of coffee if you want to feel in tune with nature and revel in its beauty. Being seated right near the butterfly garden, there were butterflies of all types flying all around us. Plants filled the cafe’s patio which the butterflies took advantage of. If you are someone that is environmentally conscious, this is the place for you. Their cups, which are recyclable, has in bold letters, “SAVE OUR PLANET”. Their utensils are wooden and although they’re thin, they are not flimsy. My first impression of Bullig’s cafe was beyond pleasant and I would come here again and again.

One thing I will note: as of now, the inside is not open, so you will be seated outside, and it would probably be best to check the weather if you are planning on visiting. It was a very windy day when I visited this cafe, as you can see by my hair flying in the picture. I had quite a few incidents which were entirely my fault (I should have checked the weather!). I sat my coffee lid down on the table and it flew right off, skipping across the wooden floor boards of the cafe’s patio. Right after that, the wind took my utensils! The waitress was kind enough to bring me replacements and don’t worry–no wildlife were harmed that day, we recycled everything that was taken by the wind!

Ask about their espresso! I went ahead and asked for an extra shot in my Oat milk latte and they gave me a little warning. Their espresso is mega strong. Our waitress told us that 3 espresso shots would equal around 6 espresso shots. Something I also really appreciated about Bullig was that they do not charge extra for alternative dairy-free milks. So, if you are lactose intolerant, vegan, or just really love the taste of almonds, Bullig does not charge an extra fee if you want almond, oat, or coconut milk instead of their regular milk. What they do charge an extra fee for is extra espresso shots ($0.95), whip cream ($0.45), and if you want to add a sauce or syrup ($0.45). They offer speciality drinks and something really neat this cafe does is label the coffees from not-so-sweet to the sweetest, in case you were wondering if something might be a little too sweet for your liking. What they’re most popular for though, is their waffles! They have multiple sweet combinations on a “hand-poured Oma’s waffle” and I have to admit it was the tastiest thing I’ve eaten in a while. I ordered the “Bee*itch”, which is what you see in the picture, and I recommend it.

Sabrina, the owner, created this “Germerican” cafe with what her grandmother, Oma left her. As a going away present, Oma gave her granddaughter all her cooking secrets inside of a cookbook, and so, Bullig was born. If there’s anything to take away from that heartfelt story–keep those family recipes written!
