Petite Rouge Cafe Camionette, which means ‘Little Red Truck’ in English, is by far, one of the wildest experiences I had inside of a New Orleans cafe and I wish I could have gone there every single morning! I visited the coffee shop, but they do have an actual truck location! What made this cafe memorable was definitely the fiery barista. The moment I stepped into this cafe I had a sense of familiarity. The barista spoke to everyone in a way that made you feel comfortable. She talked to everyone who came in as though she’s known them for years. It was really refreshing to witness that because a lot of baristas and owners will strictly do business (which is fine as well!), but she made sure to be involved in our day and make everyone feel like they just stepped into their own home. The chilly breeze that hit as I walked through the red door made the hot, dry summer heat of New Orleans cleanse my body. The Petite Rouge Cafe Camionette was engulfed in beautiful gray and white while contrasting with black and red as it became dimensional with plants hanging down and around. They had various different art work all around the shop, making the cozy environment feel a bit classy at the same time. An enchanting detail about this cafe is the Petite Rouge Camionette grille, smacked on the counter of the register, which symbolizes their cafe.

Petite Rouge Cafe serves hot drinks which include: Drip Coffee, Cafe Au Lait, Regular Espresso Shots, Americano, Macchiato, Cortado, Breve (which is espresso with half&half), Latte or Cappuccino, Chai Latte (you can add ginger syrup! YUM). You’re going to want to buy their cold drinks asap because of New Orleans scorching weather. These drinks are: Cold Brew, Espresso on Ice (Oh So Nice!), Iced Cafe Au Lait, Iced Latte, Monsta Mocha, Jet Fuel, Frozen Cafe Au Lait, Frozen Crush, Frozen Hot Chocolate, and Iced Chai Latte. They offer hot and cold teas as well, but you’ll have to ask for their menu specifically to get a hold of all their soothing options. AND GET READY SEASONAL DRINKERS– This cafe has festive drinks titled: “Festive and Fancy”. The drinks include Espresso Fizz (iced), Calhoun Dream (frozen), Lavender Milk Tea (hot or iced), and Basil Lemonade (iced). AND since I know lots of you go out of your minds for festive drinks–here’s what each of the “Festive and Fancy” drinks contain:

Espresso Fizz (large only)

  • Double Espresso
  • Pelligrino
  • Vanilla Syrup
  • Dash of 1/2 & 1/2

Calhoun Dream

  • Sweet Cream
  • Orange Juice
  • Vanilla Syrup
  • Whipped Cream

Lavender Milk Tea

  • Ceylon Black Tea
  • Lavender Syrup
  • Milk (an additional 75cents for almond or oat)

Basil Lemonade

  • Fresh Squeezed Lemons
  • Basil Syrup
  • Filtered Water

Each drink comes with two espresso shots, so if you want extra–that’ll be 4 shots! Just keep in mind: Don’t exceed 6/7 espresso shots a day to stay on the safe (and healthy) side. They have wonderful homemade syrups, which should always recommended to try while visiting a new state. They offer dark chocolate, vanilla bean, ginger, lavender, salted caramel (cream), and maple. This cafe serves dairy-free milk as well! Almond milk and my absolute favorite go-to… oat milk. They have food as well! Bagels, sandwiches, and salads! Their bagels are New Orleans very own… Humble Bagel’s! Plain or everything. You can add cream cheese, butter, or go crazy and make it an avocado mash. I had a plain bagel with cream cheese and it was wonderful because you know how some places barely give you any cream cheese? Well, not Petite Rouge Cafe. The more cream cheese, the merrier. You can also make your bagel a meal by adding stuff to it, just remember that’s extra (but worth it)! Now, the sandwiches…deserve the hype.

The prices at this cafe are what you would expect at a normal coffee shop, but given the quality of the drinks, food, service and environment–it’s really quite a steal. For the hot drinks, the priciest item is a large Breve at a whopping $5.50. The reason for it being it’s made with half and half, making the taste smooth and creamy. Now, for the unfamiliar items on the menu on the COLD section. MONSTA MOCHA: a cold brew, with chocolate, double shot, and a dash of milk. A small is $5.25, while a large is $5.75. JET FEUL: a cold brew, with maple syrup, double shot, and a dash of milk. A small is $5.50, while a large is $6.00. FROZEN CRUSH: double shot w/ espresso beans, chocolate, and half and half. A small is $5.50, while a large is $5.50. Onto the food section! BAGELS (my favorite) are $2.50–without cream cheese or butter. Add those to the mix and the price goes up to $4.00. If you want to transform your bagel into an Avocado Mash–$6.00. The sandwiches were pretty darn tasty!!! And is definitely deserving of three exclamation points. Simple Pleasures is $9.50. Chicken Salad Sandwich is $9.75. Drummer’s Delight $9.50. And the one I encourage everyone to order…The Gambler $9.50. The Gambler is the barista’s choice–meaning, they get to make you whatever they want. It’ll be an exciting surprise for you and 10 times out of 10 it turns out delicious because they’ll make you something completely off the menu.

A nice gesture Petite Rouge Cafe does is take donations. If you live in New Orleans, or if you’re just traveling, this generous cafe takes non-perishable foods for their missionary Baptist Church! Even if it isn’t your community, they’ll grateful for any donations and it’s always good to give back!
