Traveling to the city of Hiroshima on Japan’s Honshu Island in the early morning, you’ll find a quaint coffee shop that concentrates on specialty coffee. Obscura Coffee Roasters prides itself on special quality coffee, focusing on serving top-quality brews from coffee beans purchased globally. There’s no tables to sit down at this coffee shop, but a bench for seating begins at the entrance, all the way toward the back wall. This unique design allows the customer to admire the café while watching your baristas make some coffee magic!

Obscure Coffee Roasters is based solely on coffee drinks, with brewed coffee as their specialty. This café serves all the goodies, but I recommend ordering Today’s Coffee to experience a taste-bud explosion. If you’re not accustomed to drinking ground coffee, this is the café to start. According to Obscura Coffee Roasters, they utilize the characteristics of beans and keep in mind the flavor maintained by the beans. They may roast one for the fruity flavor to be felt or roast another for the sweet or rich flavor to be felt. This café makes sure to redistribute profits to them by purchasing their products at a higher price than the average market price!

Their drink menu includes Today’s Coffee, Hand Drip, Espresso, Macchiato, Iced Coffee, Latte, Cappuccino, Americano, Chocolate, and Affogato. This coffee shop recognizes and appreciates the coffee farmers who grow the beans by displaying a laminated paper showcasing the origin, giving you the option to purchase a blend. Obscura maintains a strong relationship with several countries, including Ethiopia, Guatemala, Kenya, Burundi, and more! Fascinating blends also available for purchase are Spring Blend, Fruit Blend, and Chocolate Blend. During my visit, they additionally had the Mother’s Day Blend available for sale (though some of these are subject to change depending on the season!)

On the bench inside the café, there’s a magazine presenting the shop’s accomplishments, so be sure to read it while you wait for your specialty brew! For those who don’t drink dairy, be aware that Obscura Coffee Roasters does not carry any alternative milk. If you ever find yourself in Hondori, Hiroshima, and need a morning pick-me-up, Obscura is open every day from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. They close their doors on the third Wednesday of every Month! So, be sure to come in when they’re open and relish in the baristas’ skills and their incredible mug decorations! Happy New Year!
